Movies that start off great but go downhill from there

I, like many of you, have watched more movies on DVD than at the movies. So with that in mind here is a list of my top movies that I had to turn off because they were so bad..............but started off great. This will be a post that I will add to as time goes by so you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed at the bottom, so you will be notified when I update it.

Top of the list is The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption. The movie should have been as good as the first 2 in the series but with the addition of the ninja warriors and the elephants, I had to turn it off as being totally unreal or even close to good fantasy writing. I didn't see the end so if aliens from Mars showed up in the last 20 minutes, don't tell me............I am not interested.

Next up is another movie that had some really good reviews and strange as it may sound is in the top 10 rented movies on Blockbuster. That movie is Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. It actually starts out as totally believable. You can remove the historical Lincoln from the fantasy Lincoln in this stage of the movie. For me the point of turning it off was just after the battles in the Civil War were just fought and all the soldiers in the confederate army were vampires. Top that with the reason that they had slaves as unwilling blood donors and you just turned my stomach. Sorry, didn't finish that one, as I thought it was a total injustice to the people who fought and were used in the real Civil War. What the movie should have done was remove the name of Lincoln, remove the vampire soldiers in the Civil War and you would have a decent fantasy movie.

This nutty week in review

Damn, this week is nuts. Just today Zsa Zsa Gabor, who is 93 by the way, was taken to the hospital with a blood clot in her leg. There is a danger of it moving to her heart or lungs but she would probably undergo a quick procedure that puts a small filter in her vein that leads from her leg to her heart that will block the clot from killing her.

Next we had rumors of an Avatar 2 with Sigourney Weaver back on the screen......wait a minute, didn't she die in Avatar? Now "they" are saying that "Grace," the character that Sigourney played, did not die. I suspected that Grace got absorbed into the planet like all the other lifeforms did but to bring her back as a being, that will be interesting.

The hype over the new Harry Potter movie is .........lets say, ho hum. Not much fanfare played up on this one. A few TV ads but not like in years past where fans were lining the streets for the cinemas to open up. Most of the die hard Potter fans have grown up, grown older and are a lot less able to pay for the $13 movie ticket plus popcorn and a drink. The last time I took in a movie was last month and for 2 people it cost almost $50 for tickets, a drink and popcorn. The concession stand almost broke the bank!!

The Harry Potter movie has already premiered in London on Nov 11 and is expected to go nation wide in the USA on November 19th 2010. Now I ask you, why the delay? They should have opened it up the day after the premier or the same day. Oh well....it is after all just...... ho, hum.

Of course we had a few famous people pass away this week. Dino De Laurentiis left us at the ripe old age of 91.

The lesser known movies of Johnny Depp

I bet you thought you knew everything about Johnny Depp. I bet you don't know that he starred in 2 movies along side greats Marlon Brando, Faye Dunaway and Jerry Lewis. He also has starred in Tom Petty's video "Rebel Without a Clue" with Faye Dunaway while on a film break.

The 2 movies that Depp starred in are Don Juan DeMarco where he starred along side Brando and Dunaway. Depp plays a man who thinks he is actually the real Don Juan. Brando plays his shrink. Lots of fun with that movie. The other one is Arizona Dream which starred Jerry Lewis and again Faye Dunaway. Depp plays an Eskimo in the movie and it won big film awards in Europe. The movie was not shown or promoted in the USA at all, which pissed off Dunaway which thought it was her best film ever.

Alice in Wonderland not being shown

The movie Alice in Wonderland has been black listed in Europe over a dispute. Video news below:

Another Vampire movie, do we really need one?

Honestly, do we really need another vampire movie? Hollywood seems to think we do. The latest offering is Daybreakers, staring Willem Dafoe. The plot is about the future when a disease has turned almost everyone into a vampire and there is now a shortage of blood. Gee, supply and demand, I wonder where they got that idea? Anyways the vampires are also becoming mutations, as if being a vampire already wasn't enough. Special effects might be all that keeps this movie together. Below is an interview with Willem Dafoe talking about his role in the movie, he plays a human in the movie.

Avatar tops $1 billion in pure profit

It look like Avatar will be the largest grossing movie on record. Need proof? The video news below will tell you more with a few scenes from the movie. The movie has been only out for 3 weeks and shows no sign of slowing down. By the way the movie was GREAT!

It's movie time

It is that time of the year when we are right between the great summer blockbusters and the holiday blockbusters. The current movies being shown at the box office are mediocre at best. They are the current "B" rated movies and are sure to be on DVD within a few months after they disappear off of the big screen.

So what are we left with? How about free movies online? Yes you read it right, you can Watch Movies Online for free. Not only can you see movies but also TV shows that you missed. The place that has all of those free online movies made this cheesy commercial, which is sure to go viral due to the butt cheeks on the girls in it. Here is the vid:

So did that video get your attention? Personally I would have dressed the gals in something different. The bubble on their heads does nothing for me.

Movie Planet is more than just a place to watch movies for free, it is also a full fledged movie community where you can learn what your favorite actor or movie director is up to next. They also have the latest TV show news. After I finshing writing this blog post I have to go and find out what is going on with the TV show Merlin. They are already showing season 2 in England and I know that it is renewed for season 2 here in the USA but I need a start date.

Behind the scenes of the new Green Hornet movie

This is a behind the scenes look at the new movie "The Green Hornet". The set was foggy and there is no narration so listen carefully to what is going on. Video below:

Wild Things is not for the kids after all

The movie, "Where the wild things are", debuted this weekend to rave reviews from adults that enjoyed "dark" stories. Parents with young children on the other hand are having to deal with children who where very disappointed or disturbed by the whole thing. The movie you see is not made for young children. It is about a child with anger issues. Message boards all over the internet are having hot tempered discussions about how parents with children under 10 were misled by the TV commercials and adults with no young children who liked the movie.

Kristen Chenoweth is a busy women

You remember "Olive" in the short lived TV show, Pushing up Daises, well she has been busy since that show went off the air. She is currently filming "You Again" a movie that is scheduled to be released in 2010. The movie's cast reads like a who's who of Hollywood. Here is a list of the other cast members:
Betty White
Patrick Duffy
Jamie Lee Curtis
Sigourney Weaver
Kristen Bell

By the way Kristen just won a Emmy tonight so congrats to her.

Harry Potter - a flash in the pan?

After all the big promotion of the latest Harry Potter movie, the movie's debut and following weeks have dwindled. Was the movie a dud? Is the charm of Harry getting old? Movie goers seem to saying yes.

After only a few weeks of the movie's release there is hardly any mention of it in the media. People are not talking about it on the streets anymore.

Harry Potter fever is on

For the first time in quite sometime our local movie theater will be having a showing of the new Harry Potter movie at one minute past midnight on Wednesday morning. The Harry Potter movie is starting to spark some movie going interest even in a small rural town.

Harry Potter and the half blood prince

Are you ready for the next Harry Potter movie? Warner Brothers is hoping you are. The 6th movie in the series of 8 movies (yes I know there were only 7 books but the plan is to make the last book into 2 movies) is scheduled to hit the US theaters on July 15, 2009.

I haven't seen the hype in the stores with Harry Potter clothes like in years past so maybe the theater going public is getting a bit worn out on Harry and his wizard friends. Only time will tell and of course we'll all see what happens come Halloween this year.

Summer movies

Have you seen Night at the Museum yet? How about Star Trek? Angels and Demons? There are plenty of early summer releases and more to come. I am betting there will be lines waiting for the next Harry Potter installment. This is a movie going summer. If you can't go on vacation this year at least treat yourself to a movie on the big screen.

Behind the scenes of Wolverine

Here is a video parody of the movie Wolverine. You may have seen the movie but you haven't seen this bizarre take on Hugh Jackman struggling with his performance in the new X-Men: Origins film! Apparently, the actor's song and dance impulses were a challenge to overcome during the filming of the movie. Watch and enjoy.

CSI - the big screen movie

Yes CSI is coming to a theater near you. Bill Petersen hinted back in September 2008 of a big screen movie, well now it is in the pipeline according the Bill. His character "Grisom" will more than likely be in the movie. It was one of the main reasons he didn't have himself killed off in the series (yes Bill is one of the producers of CSI so he has a say in what goes on).

He hinted that the story line is a great one, enough to take it to the big screen. No word yet on the release date.

The Watchmen movie

The new movie "The Watchmen" has not only gotten people talking but comic book collectors are on a rampage. Copies of the DC comics of the Watchmen dated in the 1980's are being bid on and sold on eBay in the hundreds of dollars. The highest one I personally saw was over $500 for issue number 8.

There will be a Hancock 2

Will Smith has already said there will be another Hancock movie. No word yet as to when filming will begin. I am curious as to what that large being or creature was in the background of Hancock during the tornado scene. I wonder if it will lead to the new movie plot?

The plot to extort John Travolta thickens

After John Travolta's son Jett died there has been an attempt to extort money from the Travolta family. So far a Senator, a minister of tourism and an ambulance driver have been mentioned in the conspiracy. The Senator has resigned her post, the minister is under investigation and the ambulance driver is still in custoday.

This little story is panning out to be stranger than one of Travolta's movies. I predict in a year or so this will be coming to a theater near you.

Hugh Jackman and family gets mobbed by fans and reporters on Sunday

The next X-Men movie will be coming out soon and Hugh Jackman is feeling the crush of fans. He whole family was mobbed by the press and paparazzi as they left a Nicks game in New York on Sunday. Film footage is below. He (Hugh) is holding his daughter while his wife (the short haired blond) is holding their son's hand.
